Criterion has always been a film lover’s dream, and they've done a wonderful job with this set. In terms of history, this is the closed thing you'll ever come to a book put onto DVD. Initially released in drive-in theaters in 1962, Carnival opened to a limited audience as part of a double feature, but it left an indelible mark on those who did see it, like director George A. Romero. One of those is the horror film Carnival of Souls from 1962. I certainly had never heard of this piece, and I'd wager quite a few others had no inkling of it existence as well. Now that's the stuff. If you guys are convincing enough I might just grab both. It wasn’t until 1989 that the film finally had a proper revival and was given a theatrical release in New York, establishing it as one of the most influential horror films of its time.
